Meet Buckfast Breeder 29: Our New Queen for Raising F1 Buckfast Queens

by | Jun 4, 2026 | Beekeeping, News | 0 comments

We’ve got some exciting news from the bee yard: we’ve received a new Buckfast breeder queen—Buckfast Breeder 29—and she’ll be the foundation we use to raise our next round of F1 Buckfast queens.

If you’ve been following our queen program, you already know we care about doing things the right way: strong stock, careful handling, and queens raised with real-world beekeeping in mind—not just “good on paper.” Breeder 29 is a big step forward for us, and we’re glad to share what this means for your apiary.

What is a “Buckfast breeder queen” anyway?

A breeder queen is the mother queen we use to produce grafts/larvae for raising daughter queens. In plain terms: she’s the genetic starting point.

When we say we’ll be raising F1 Buckfast queens, we mean:

  • Breeder 29 provides the mother side of the genetics
  • Her larvae are raised into new queens here in our operation
  • Those queens are “first generation” daughters—often called F1s

Because mating happens out in the real world, the drone side can vary by area and season. That’s normal. What we control tightly is the quality of the mother stock, the raising conditions, and the selection process.

Why we’re excited about Breeder 29

We chose to bring in a new breeder queen for one reason: to keep improving the queens we offer.

A good breeder queen helps us aim for the traits beekeepers actually want:

  • Strong brood patterns that build colonies up fast
  • Good temperament that makes inspections easier
  • Solid productivity for honey flow season
  • Healthy, resilient colonies that can handle real conditions

We’re not here to hype anything up with fancy talk. We’re here to raise queens that work for folks who keep bees in the Southeast and beyond.

What you can expect from our upcoming F1 Buckfast queens

As we begin raising daughters from Breeder 29, our goal is simple: provide queens that help you build colonies you can depend on.

Here’s what we focus on in our queen program:

  • Careful timing and nutrition during queen rearing
  • Strong cell builders and starters
  • Hands-on checks during the process
  • Practical selection based on performance, not just labels

We’ll also be sharing updates as Breeder 29 settles in and we start producing queens from her.

When will Breeder 29’s F1 queens be available?

Queen availability depends on the season, weather, and mating conditions. Keep an eye on our store and our updates for queen availability.

A quick note on responsible expectations

Every beekeeper knows this, but it’s worth saying: no queen is magic.

Even the best genetics still depend on:

  • Your local forage
  • Your management style
  • Weather patterns
  • Pest pressure
  • Mating conditions

What we can promise is that we’re putting the work in on our end—starting with quality breeder stock like Buckfast Breeder 29.

Thanks for supporting our queen program

We appreciate every beekeeper who trusts us with their apiary. Whether you’re running a few backyard hives or managing a bigger yard, we want to be a supplier you can count on.

If you’ve got questions about our Buckfast queen program, or you want to tell us what traits matter most in your area, reach out—because we’re building this program for real beekeepers.

Stay tuned—Breeder 29 is just getting started.
